The Canterbury Choir

The older of the parishes two youth choirs, the Canterbury Choir is for children in grades two through nine and rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 p.m. from late Augusta through Pentecost Sunday. The choir, directed by Keith Shafer, sings weekly for the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service. An annual retreat at the Bishop Gravatt Center in Aiken, has long been a choir tradition. The Canterbury Choir was featured at the Sewanee Church Music Conference at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where the celebrated British church musician and composer, Dr. Malcolm Archer, directed them before church musicians from around the country. The choir also made a CD featuring Moses Hogan’s arrangements of spirituals, “He’s got the whole world” (available at the online store).
